No excuse for being dirty

Yes that's right, I have absolutely no excuse now for having dirty hands...not now that I've made some scrummy lavender infused homemade soap.

This is the result of my first attempt and already I'm addicted... Guess I have to say thanks to Anni and Yvonne at Damselfly Crafts for giving me yet more to spend my money on... Lol.

Now I'm going to have to purchase more stash and get the soap kitchen well and truly under way... Wonder if I can get a few batches done before xmas as I could include them as wee reminders for people.

Right, off to see what mischief I can get up to now.

Happy crafting all.

Oh my...

Think I may have a lazy day at home today... It's been snowing overnight again. Well it's a good excuse to stay warm indoors, coffee, cake and tv on the agenda... And a little crafting as well no doubt.

Right now, it's time for coffee and a hot croissant. See ya all later.

Home safe & sound

Well I left here at 8am this morning and that's me just back in the door... Talk about the car journey from hell... It was -7 most of the way up this morning and the same coming home... I managed to cope with the temp but the windscreen scooshers didn't... Frozen solid the whole day... I've been on the hard shoulders more times than I can remember. On the way up I had to get out the car and throw snow on the window to clear it so I bought de-icer when I was there and on the way back was simply putting the window down to spray the windscreen... Service stations are jam packed with motorists having the exact same problem and I even met one poor couple who's bonnet was frozen shut... They got the last bottle of window de-icer and very kindly shared some with me.. That's what I call a true random act of kindness.

Well, baked potato is now ready so I'm signing off for now... Catch you all later.

peek a boo...

Morning all.. by the time this is posting on my blog I'll be off on my journey... up up and away to Kirkcaldy today.. have what will probably be the final demo day of the year today at
Burns & Harris
11 The Postings
Kirkcaldy
so if you happen to be in the area, please pop in and say hello.
Right onto today's card... another quick and easy make for Christmas... card instructions were taken from the new Hougie Crafts project book and then once my card was scored and cut, I layered some bazzill cardstock on selected panels which I highlighted using a white Sakura gelly pen. Next up I added some foam mounted embellishments and to finish off I die cut some snowflakes which I covered in glitter (quickie glue pen is perfect for this), a few wee gems in the centres.
Well, I hope you all have a fabulous day today and sure hope that not too many of you are surrounded by snow... me personally... I hope I manage the journey to Kirkcaldy and back without encountering any... keep fingers crossed for me please.
Toodles for now

Tis the season

Wind picking up, snow falling and it's gathering on the window ledge now!!!

Hope you all stay safe and warm, and for those of you who need to drive, please be careful and stay safe.

That's better

Just realised how dark the last pictures looked taken on my phone so here's another taken on camera... couldn't use the flash though as it's reflecting on the embossing but it still gives you a slightly better idea.
Off now to get some dinner but before I do... if you fancy owning this image it's available from Heritage Rubber Stamps.

Finished...

Now if that's not a quick and easy topper to make for a card I really don't know what is.

Spring into action

Morning all... and would you believe it... I've got a demo to do tomorrow in Kirkcaldy and I have woken this morning with a bit of a blocked nose and my eyes are feeling a little on the puffy side... think I'll be hitting the vitamin tub soon as I'm finished posting this.
Right, here's a little spring card I made last week as a sample so instructions were taken from the new Hougie Crafts project book, and then the card was decorated using some Tim Holtz distress inks and the images are from the 'Words Like Honey' stamp range 'Country Hedgerow'... I simply created my 2 pieces for the card, mounted onto some bazzill and then onto my base card.
Well I'm sorry to be rude and keep this short but I'm off to get some meds in me.. will be back again shortly with another little something.
Happy crafting

Winter Village Scene

First up my apologies for the bad photography.. it was very dull outside and when I tried using the flash it just reflected off the mirri card...
Anyway, here's a little stepper card I made using the Hougie Board and as my main image I used one of the Winter Village Scene images (you get two in the set) from Heritage Rubber Stamps.
These stamps are a dream to work with as it's up to you just how many layers you want to use.. on this one I used 4... so easy to do and just a little bit of glitter to finish off.
Hhhmmm just thinking... will try to do a tutorial tomorrow using the other image that you get in the pack... you'll love that one too... more rooftops and Santa too.
Stamp set is called 'Winter Village Scenes' and you can purchase it from Heritage Rubber Stamps
Hougie board is available from Hougie Crafts
Hope you all have a wonderful evening.

Love this design...

Here's another project made using the Hougie Board... the inside has been left white for sample purposes but just think... you could use it like this as an invite... or you could do it in black.. white insert and then add a black bow tie.. perfect invite for a stag do or a black tie event...
It's simple design scoring using the Hougie Board, inked the card then for the sleeve I used the same colour ink to stamp my design, inked the flower, added some stickles and there you go... it's complete.
Hougie Board available from Hougie Crafts
Flourish stamp available from Time to Sow
Love and hugs to all

Half Price MS punch....

Wow... check this out... half price Martha Stewart... turkey with all the trimmings... just in perfect time for christmas cards too... was originally £13.50 and now it's only £6.75...
Don't imagine these will stay in stock for too long... not at that kind of price.
If you fancy getting your hands on one, they are for sale at Samuel Taylors.

Sunrise

Thought I'd start the day with a lovely bright sky... created using the Hougie Board and my gorgeous stamp below with my deer heading off into the safety of the forest...
This was one of those cards I had to keep on the plain side as I thought this way it emphasized both the sunray effect and also the stamped image.
The image is called 'Winter Sun' and is available from Heritage Rubber Stamps... for those still in need of a Hougie Board or the new design booklet then visit Hougie Crafts and order yours online today.
Hhhhmmm wonder what else will be posted today... do you think I can squeeze another tutorial in... fingers crossed.

Winter Warmer

Now seeing as it's night time and it's all dark and cold outside... I thought I'd share a little something with you all to help brighten up your night.
I so love this image of the children around the tree, complete with nativity scene at their feet... it's one of those few stamps around that fully identifies the true meaning of christmas which so many often forget.
The image is called 'Children Around Christmas Tree' and it is a high quality wood mounted stamp available for only £8.35 from Heritage Rubber Stamps. Please do take time to look around all the other stamps available on the site as they truly are wonderful to use. Next time around I'm thinking of trying this as gold on black... think that could look quite stunning too.
Anyhow, time to go again and get myself something to eat.

Decopatch tutorial

Now for anyone who may be interested in decopatch, but has never tried it, here's a little tutorial to let you see just how fun and simple it really is to do. To start the process, we have the object that we wish to decorate (a bangle on this occassion), our chosen paper/s, decopatch glue, some water to keep our brush clean along with some tissue to dry the brush and of course the brush itself. Now I do recommend that you use a proper decopatch brush as they are specially designed for this purpose but I had to donate mine to a workshop participant at the weekend and haven't had a chance to replace it yet... this brush I did use was actually too soft for the purpose and didn't iron out all the wrinkles properly... however, it will suffice for tutorial purposes on this occassion.
So now that you have everything in place, you want to tear up some of your paper as seen in the picture below. Adapt the size to the object you are working on. For large projects the recommended size is 3cm x 3cm. Smaller projects, simply use smaller pieces.

Once you have your paper ready, dip your brush into the glue and apply a thin layer to a space area of your project and whilst the glue is still wet, position your paper on top then working from the centre of the paper, work your brush outwards to remove as many creases as possible.

Now all you have to do is continue this process all over your project by slightly overlapping your papers by a few millimetres. The picture above shows where I placed my single piece in the beginning and the other end shows how it starts to look once you have applied more and more paper.

This bangle takes approx 30 mins to complete and is dry within another 5 mins max. The glue does dry clear and also contains a varnish which allows for decopatched objects to be washed etc such as kitchen trays.

Here is today's finished bangle but if it doesn't suit tomorrow's outfit... I'll quickly redecorate in a paper that matches my requirements... now that's what I call recycling and saving some pennies... altered jewellery in 30 mins and there is no limit to the amount of layers you can add.
Well I hope that some more of you crafters out there will give decopatch a go.. it's a very relaxing craft to do and means we can change the looks of our belongings for very little money indeed... and we all know just how thrifty us crafters can be.
Happy crafting

WOYWW

Another late entry this week again from me... sorry about that... next weeks will probably be early as I'm getting my wisdom tooth out that day so no doubt be up half the night... lol... Anyway... what's lying around for this weeks WOYWW.... things have been flying out the door as quickly as they are finished around here so my desk actually had nothing on it this morning!!! so I decided to share some things with you instead. All decopatch... well I did just finish 4 days of workshops didn't I... lol.

Here's a close up of my little kitty... love these papers and he's still not quite finished yet... need to make him some eyes and a pretty bow to put around his neck.

A few days ago I showed you a picture of a plain gold picture frame... well here it is once it's been decopatched at one of the workshops... that was quite funny as I used the same papers on this as I did on my bangle so I ended up with a matching pair.. lol...

Finally here's a leaf bowl which I've done for my mum as her colour scheme is currently black and white.

I buy all my decopatch stuff from Damselfly Crafts in Glasgow and they also have an online website. Will try and do a tutorial on it in the next few days for those who have never tried it before.
As for last week... so sorry I didn't get to snoop but had rather a lot on the go.. a few questions were asked about things on my desk so just for you... here are the answers.
There was some concertina card on my desk and this is actually going to be made into a little christmas tree... A wonderful idea developed by Kay Rutter using the Hougie Board.
Also the little house I have on my desk is something I made using a kit a few months back.. if you have the time and patience to whizz through my blog you will find details of the kit which was purchased from Samuel Taylors.
Right, think I've rambled on enough now and got so many things to get through today again but I will be back later with some more goodies created using the Hougie Board.
Toodles for now and happy crafting one and all

Quick make

Morning all, even though it's rapidly approaching lunch time.
Still got some housework to finish off and have the hairdressers this afternoon, as well as a quick run to Asda for a few bits and bobs. Before I start on all that though, I though I'd share a picture of a wee quick make gift box. The box design was taken from the new Hougie Project Booklet and was obviously scored using bright green Hougie Board... lol... you can actually get 3 of these boxes from just 1 sheet of A4 card.
For my box... I simply followed the instructions in the booklet using basic white cardstock, then inked one of my 'Words Like Honey' stamps in black and stamped all over the card... finished off by punching some holes and threading my ribbon through.
I'm actually going to make a pile of these for my friend... she has 2 small children who love their advent calenders, but as a change this year I thought it would be nice to fill these little boxes with some goodies and hang them on the christmas tree... that way the children will have to search the tree to find the correct numbered box before they can have their goody... it will also be nicer for them to open a gift box then just push a door on a basic advent calender.
Right... off to get organised now and will pop back a little later with something else.. hubby has stolen my camera at the moment so only way I can post any other pictures is via my phone.. typical eh!
Happy crafting and keep smiling

All done...

Well today was the last day at the country living fair at the SECC and I must say it was fantastic... What a wonderful show with so many exhibitors participating. This was my exhibitors badge... Very cute, don't you think.

I did treat myself to a nice wee bag (bargain at £10), but will take a proper picture of it for you tomorrow. As for my bangle... Well it headed off on a plane with Sarah, one of the organisers, along with a christmas tree bauble which I decorated for her during today's workshop. What a shame... I'm going to have to decorate another bangle... Lol.

Well, must sign off now, going to have a bite to eat then got a few more samples to do before bedtime.

Catch you all tomorrow and hope you've had a fab weekend.

Another 2 projects

Morning all... hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned be it spending time with family, shopping or crafting... life is what we make it, so do your best every day to do at least one thing that makes you happy.
Well today I thought I'd share 2 projects with you.... the first is my bangle... when I left home yesterday morning my bangle was baby pink and lime green... unfortunately that clashed so during yesterday's workshop whilst everyone else was making their christmas ornament, I took the opportunity to redecorate my bangle so that it co-ordinated with the outfit I was wearing.. that allowed workshop participants to see just how easy and quick it is to revamp something... and they were rather impressed at just quickly the adaptation was made.
We did have quite a laugh at the workshop yesterday... we are supposed to have 25 participants and yesterday we had a few more than our allocated number... never one to turn anyone away you see... so I ended up without a brush... lol. Fortunately my beloved friend Elena Costella had come along to join in and she very kindly allowed me to borrow her brush to start the demonstration off... then as soon as possible I returned it to her and I continued by using my finger... it was rather funny and was I ever so grateful to Elena. Thankfully using my finger didn't prove to be an issue as I was working on the flat surface of the bangle so it was still very easy to do.

For today's workshop I thought it would be nice to do something else so I am going to show them how to alter a photo frame... we all know how we end up buying new frames for our pictures and new mirrors etc just because we change the colour scheme in a room... where in reality, we can just as easily alter our current belongings at a fraction of the cost by simply doing some decopatch. This is the bog standard frame I am going to use and will post a picture later of the new revamped frame for you all to see.
Well, I've just realised the time so best scoot my bum into the shower and get ready for today's show.... hope you all have a wonderful day filled with fun and laughter.

Decopatch Sleigh...

Sorry this is short and sweet but heading out the door in next half hour and still got a few bits and bobs to finish beforehand...
Seeing as I'm doing another workshop today again, I thought it only right to share some decopatch with you... today it's a little sleigh that's been done in christmas paper. This is the perfect way to give some sweets etc for a christmas present instead of having them in a normal old box... simply fill with chocolates and wrap in some pretty paper... perfect.
I'm not quite finished yet as I want to add some gilding here and there then choose what sweeties to pack it with before wrapping and giving away. Another cheap hand made pressie...
Well, sorry to dash but hope you all have a fab day and I'll catch up with everyone later.

1st day over

Well I've just got home a short time ago, am currently having a wee cup of coffee before getting back to work again... Samples for the rest of the night now.

What a wonderful day it was... We had a super workshop and our youngest attendee was only about 8yr old and she actually managed to finish her decoration... I just had to bring her up on the stage with me so she could show everyone what she had made... All the ladies very kindly applauded her and the organisers even took her picture so she was over the moon.

Only managed to have a wee wander around today but I must say, they do have some adorable stuff for sale ranging from hats and coats to jewellery & christmas ornaments. First time I've attended the show but it sure won't be my last.

Oh and I'm now doing the workshops on Saturday and Sunday too so I really have had an awesome day. Sorry I didn't get any pics today as it was all go, but now that everything is there and ready for tomorrow I should be able to get some to share with you then.

Coffee is almost done so guess it's time to get dinner on the go and back to work.

Hope you had a fun day.

Just Magnolia challenge

Well I can hardly believe it myself... I've actually managed to make a card to fit with a challenge this week... phew.. well I needed a little thank you card so decided to use the sketch over at Just Magnolia to provide my layout..
Fab sketch to work with as it was quick and simple, combined with a little stamping and colouring.. oh and let's not forget the wee adhesive pearls to finish it off.
Papers are MME
Border Punch by Fiskars
Images are Magnolia
Coloured with Promarkers
Adhesive gems from stash
Nestabilities
Sorry it's short and brief but got a big work load on at the moment, so must push on... workshops tomorrow and Friday, christamas card orders to finish, nieces birthday card to make and a whole pile of samples that need to be in the post by Monday.

WOYWW

Boy... talk about being late joining in the fun... it's almost 3pm... unbelieveable and I'm only now taking pics of my desk for WOYWW.
Well I do have what appears to be a rather tidy and inactive desk today, but it's very far from the truth... the desk is busy bustling away with prep work making base cards so I can decorate them all at the one time... oh yeah... got a pile of card samples to make so my faithful Hougie Board has been in action today and whilst it's there, I'm simply creating all the bases, hence the pile of white cards to the side... it's a right wee production line that's on the go here today... lol.
Once they are all scored and folded it's onto the decoration part... then they will all be in the post by Monday at the latest.
Well... I've got a card to post now too so will bid you all a fond farewell and hope to catch up with you soon.

Right folks... I need your help... I have officially declared war against my printer and it is going to be retired from action as soon as I get a replacement... thing is driving me up the wall and my sanity can take it no more.
So... looking for ideas on the best printer to buy... must take card stock obviously... Please let me know what you use and the reason why you love it so much...
With any luck I'll have a new one sat on my desk before the start of next week and this piece of crap that I currently have can disappear off to Rob's office as a spare.
Thanks in advance for all comments and advice received and I'll post a pic soon as my new one is set up.

Run around...

Evening all... Remember that old program from the 70's and 80's called run around... Well I feel like that's what I've been participating in today... Lol... Housework, washing etc, vodafone shop as I'm having probs sending emails from one of my accts on my phone, bank to check my account as one of the cash machines I use regularly was cloned 2 weeks ago, pet shop, homebase then a wee drive into Glasgow to visit Anni at Damselfly to finalise details of our workshops on Thursday and Friday... Now it's time to organise some tea before finally getting around to doing some crafting tonight... Phew... Will it be card making, decopatch, felt making or soap making... Oh the mind... Remembrance Sunday

Whether we currently have friends or family serving our country at home or abroad, or know those who have previously served in years gone by. What is important to remember is that lives are lost and ruined by the trauma's of war. My great grandfather died during WW1 and no part of his body was ever returned... My grand father fought in WW2 and was one of the soldiers lucky enough to return home... Today I know a few people who are fighting for our country and every time they are dispatched to foreign grounds, I pray for their safe return. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone today who have been or will be affected by war.

Please do take just 1 minute from your day to stop, sit in silence and say a little prayer for all concerned and let us hope that one day we will be able to find peace in this world.

Lazy day...

Well I awoke this morning to a phone call from my mum with yet another christmas card order... And I was originally going to make a start on it today, then once I finished the housework, had made a few phone calls and had lunch, I ended up deciding just to have a bit of a lazy day instead. Made myself a coffee, turned the tv on and sat for the rest of the afternoon doing some decopatch and just relaxing. Tonight, I've sat back and enjoyed a lovely chinese take away and have some wild strawberry ice cream in the fridge for later. A little tv and then a relatively early night in bed I think then back to normal tomorrow hopefully.

WOYWW

Well it's another week and time again for another WOYWW.... I know the clocks were put back an hour the other week but it feels a bit more like they were put back a whole week... don't you think. It's a very true saying... the older you get, the quicker times goes. The feeling is not helped right enough by the fact that autumn seems to have forgotten to make an appearance this year and we've headed straight into winter... it's dark around 4pm and this morning again... cars had to be scrapped... wonder how long it will be before the snow touches down here.

Anyway, my desk is certainly not the tidiest at the moment... I seem to just finish one job and head straight into another without stopping to clear up... there's a right old mish mash here from stamps and embossing powders to die cut and embellishments. Certainly not my most favourite way to work but hey ho... I'm getting through them and that's all that really matters... and I will get to relax a little next week so I can have a good old tidy up then.

Even the floor is being used just now... not enough space on the desk for the Hougie board, papers, card etc... at least it is in somewhat of a tidy pile at the moment... perhaps that's just because it's not been attacked yet this morning... lol... give it an hour or so and no doubt it will be strewn all over the place again.
Well... today's agenda consists of finishing some samples cards, housework, ironing, pluck the old eyebrows, pack demo kit etc and I've got a meeting at 6pm so want to be done and dusted before that so I can sit back and relax watching some tv tonight.
Hopefully I'll get time to pop by a few more of you over the coming week than what I've been able to over the last few... I miss not having my wee nosey... anyway, time to say toodles for now else my work will never get done. Hope you're all having a fab time hopping around everyone's crafty space and I'll be joining you in a few days so keep those pictures coming.

Celebration time...

It's my friends daughter's birthday today and I was asked to put a little card together for her... she has a handmade one every year and has now come to expect it... quite sweet don't you think. Didn't get much notice on this one and was trying to find a little me time over the weekend but still managed to throw a little easel card together. My new Magnolia cake also came into it's own right for a quick make card. A little matting & layering, some punching, colouring and the addition of some embellishments finished the whole card off.
Well.. guess I best wrap up her for the moment... samples need doing and that won't happen if I sit typing and chatting all day... though I would love to, unfortunately work must come first. On that final note I'll bid you a fond farewell and will catch up with you all again later.
Happy crafting
